Today's itinerary was taking the train back to Frankfurt for the flight back
to San Jose on the 4th. It's normally a six and half hour ride from Paris to
Frankfurt, but the the train was an hour late in arriving -- 7 1/2 hour ride.
I didn't mind it at all!
The whole journey was wonderful! I was in a compartment, and was alone from
Paris-Metz, then two people came in from Metz-Mannheim, then I was alone
again from Mannheim-Frankfurt. All along was an otherwise-dull-but-pretty-today
snow-covered landscape. The town of Metz, France was also nice to look at
from the train window.
Once in Frankfurt AM Main train station, it was another short train ride to the
airport. The attendant at the train station didn't speak a word of english, but
I managed to get a 1-way ticket to Frankfurt Flughafen using my extremely limited
german and a handy-dandy "list of phrases" in my europe tourbook!
My reservation that night was at the Airport Sheraton -- not AT the airport but
IN the airport - towering over terminal 1, and all complements of American Airlines
miles.
