Subject: Driving through a winter wonderland...in a Jaguar
Guten tag,
I´ve reached Munich after a 4 hour drive from Frankfurt. The flight from San Jose-Dallas was a 1/2 hour late, and i had to run to the other terminal to catch the Dallas-Frankfurt flight,but finally did make it after everyone else had boarded.
On the flight, i fell asleep somewhere northeast of Halifax and woke up directly over a cloud-covered Dublin, Ireland. That was perfect - more than 5 hours of uninterrupted sleep on my 5th Atlantic crossing in the last 1 year. But I´m not quite on German time yet - and let me again say that it is a very scary thing to wake up while driving and not remembering how you got there. But somehow or other, i did make it in to Munich safe and sound.
The drive from Frankfurt was A3 to Nurnberg and A9 to Munich. From Frankfurt to Nurnberg is a heavily travelled truck route, so not too many opportunities to go fast on the autobahn. From Nurnberg to Munich the whole landscape was white - and i was driving through a winter wonderland .... in my Jaguar X-type.
That´s the car I got. 5-speed manual Jaguar X-type. With a navigation system, a CD player, rain-sensing windshield wipers and daylight-sensing headlights. and all-leather interior, seat "butt-warmers", blah blah blah... basically everything i could want. except an alarm to wake me up if i fall asleep while driving. that was NOT good!
so anyway, now i´m in familiar Munich, about a block away from where i had stayed last time i was here. Just had lunch (cheese, tomato, cheese, lettuce, cheese and more cheese sandwhich and an orange fanta that i´m still drinking.) i dont feel like going to Fussen today...so Neuschwanstein Castle will have to wait for another trip. Tomorrow it´s supposed to be snowing through my intended route -- through Innsbruck and down into Verona,Italy, so i guess i'm going through Zurich and Geneva down to Monte Carlo -- no Alps along that route. oh well..... that road through Innsbruck will have to wait for another trip too.
ohhhhh one really important thing i forgot to mention -- I realize i hadn't told all of you that I was going to Europe again. Well, i am. In fact, i'm here.
