Subject: Day #5 in Praha: June 9...

Gutentag,

Fianlly caught up on my emails! *Today* was my last day in Prague (and this
trip), and after checking out of the hotel I went to the train station, putting
my luggage in a locker there for the rest of the day... didn't feel like giving
it to the hotel people even though that would've been free... lets just say
this hotel's staff hasn't been very friendly over the last 4 nights. I didn't
want to deal with them anymore.

Well, for the first time in Prague, lunch was a sandwich to-go bought at the
train station.. even that was just a way of getting change -- the luggage
lockers here only accepted 5, 10 and 20 krown coins, for rental of 60
krown/day... did not even accept the 50 coin!

After lunch, hanging around the train station some more and *CONSIDERING*
taking an overnight train to zurich instead of the flight tonight, still having
that in the back of my mind when I left and went to the Jewish Quarter.

I got there (Staromestska metro), and what I wanted to see was the "Old New
Synagogue" and the cemetary.

Everything is closed on Saturdays! I didn't expect that, so far its been
Mondays when everything has been closed, but then I checked my tourbook and it
says so right there! I should've read that a day earlier!

So all I ended up doing was roaming around, walking on all the streets there
and eventually working my way back to the Old Town Square.. then taking the
metro, tram, and funicular railway up Petrin Hill.

I thought I'd get to see more views of the city -- that is really the best
attraction in all of Prague, anywhere you can get views of the city is good!
There are a few spots, but not too many. The hill contains a 1/3rd size Eiffel
Tower, with no elevator so I didn't climb up the steps this time. I'm sure the
views would've been great, but by now I was getting tired of the *climbing*,
especially climbing steps!

I walked around up there: there are some nice rose gardens, and a couple of
cafeterias with -- you guessed it -- more pastries! Then made my way back to
the funicular and down the hill..

After that, it was time to go back to the train station, ponder buying the
overnight Zurich ticket (1400 CZK/$70, and "forfitting" the zurich hotel
tonight, since it was too late to cancel)... I was seriously considering it!

Finally I just took the metro and bus to Prague airport, and flight to Zurich,
checking into my "regular" airport hotel here, which is where I am now.... my
flight back to the U.S. tomorrow morning!

It's been a great trip, and I'm definitely coming back to these countries
again!!

Pictures after June 5 will be up later, probably after I get back...

Until next time,

La revedere, vissontlatashruh, do widzenia, na shledanou, and guten abend,
-me.
