October 2, 2001 : Tour Eiffel

I arrived at Paris Charles De Gaulle airport with a big grin on my face. The plane landed at 12:45pm, and by the time I got my bags, cleared customs, found out where I was supposed to go to collect my metro pass, museum pass, etc... then went there and then to my hotel, checked in, got ready etc... it was already around 5pm! So I went to the Eiffel Tower - someone had told me you should go there at sunset because you get to see it in the day and night... so I did.

It was GORGEOUS!!!! ok, the daytime view was a little bit dissapointing because Paris looks a little silly in the daytime. They dont allow any tall buildings in the downtown area, so the whole city looks completely flat, except for one skyscraper and the Eiffel Tower, and this out-of-the-way area called "La Defense", which is where all the corporations (i.e. skyscrapers) are now. So from the top of the Eiffel Tower, the whole city looks flat except for this one building rising up. I was at the top until after sunset, and didn't notice they had already turned the lights on in the tower... Now THAT was an amazing sight!!! Only on the way down to the 2nd floor did I notice the lights... and the tower with all its lights turned on looks gorgeous!!!

So anyway, there were a lot more pictures of the tower and the fountains acrossthe river from it (at Trocadero)... and a couple of ice cream cones... andfinally came back to my hotel around midnight or so! (hotel was in downtownParis, 10 minute metro ride from there).

This next batch of photos of the gorgeous "Tour Eiffel" were taken at dusk/night from various angles. You may notice some of these are on different nights... I kept going back there whenever I had some free time! ;)

Ok, so I admit I went a little overboard with the Eiffel Tower pictures..... Here're some more...
