Subject: A visit to a World Heritage Site, a visit to the World's Worst Motel, and a found bag!
Today:
Today was the last of the 1000 km-driving days on this trip. I left Erldunda at
7:30 this morning, stopped once at the South Australia border to take some
pictures of a "Welcome to South Australia" sign along with several pictures of
other informational signs and most interesting of all: other boards where
travelers had written whatever they wanted to write there!
The second stop was in the town of Marla, SA -- to fill up on gas and buy my
lunch. I went into the restaurant, saw on their menu "Hamburger-Plain" and
"Hamburger-Lot". I assumed the "Plain" was simply 2 buns and a patty, so I
ordered the "Lot". well, this really was a lot! The guy made it and brought it
over, telling me after I eat it I'll have to go running for half an hour! I
took one look at that hamburger and all I remember doing was nodding... this
thing was HUGE! He then asked me if I was a doctor... I just said no and
left...
When I got in the car I wondered how I was going to eat this thing! Well...
after I started driving I opened the paper bag and found a greasy bun with
greasy meat inside and grease all around the wrapping. Took ONE bite.... and
threw away the rest. Serves me right for not having something more
"familiar"...
So I kept driving, .... 762 km non-stop from Marla to Port Augusta, SA, checked
into my motel, filled up on gas, went to Hungry Jacks for the "meal of the
day", came back here, checked my email, and tried to call Qantas Baggage
Service.
IT ACTUALLY WORKED! I've been trying to call those idiots for the last 4 days
and every time I got an answering machine asking me to leave them a message!
Tonight, a real person answered the phone for the first time!!! He said he knew
about my bag, and it was shipped to Mackay on Saturday. It's been there ever
since. So I called Mackay airport, confirmed with them that they have my bag,
and told them to deliver it to Adelaide, where I'll be tomorrow.
So tomorrow, my bag will be arriving at Adelaide at 1:00 PM on Qantas flight
661! :-)
Now I'm going to bed.
