Yesterday turned out to be another rest day -- slept most of the day... I guess the excitement of finally being here is exhausting me! It was also drizzling so didn't feel like going anywhere. Today, its still drizzling but I have do a trip to attend to!
9:40 AM = Left motel. 3972.3 trip miles.
Looks like Wrangell-St. Elias is out if this weather is same up there! In that case it will be straight to Cantwell on the Denali Highway... $27.33 = 8.36 gallons overfillup (3.27/gallon) -- I'd think Valdez would be less expensive--it's turned out to be the costliest fillup on this trip!
10:06 = Bought Subrway lunch & dinner to go. Got advice from the guy about Denali Highway -- "It wont be a problem today, just make sure you carry water (for drinking), have a spare tire, good shoes, and CARRY A BIG GUN! I'm serious..."
11:41/4059.5 miles = Decided to turn right on Hwy 10 towards Wrangell-St Elias NP. I have the next 4 hours to spend in this area, no more than that!
I dunno about this -- its raining and the visibility up ahead looks pretty bad -- like I'm going into a storm... I'll keep going till Chitina, then decide whether to proceed...
12:33/4092.3 = Through Chitina... I'm going on, at least for now.
12:45/4095.4 = Turned around -- doesn't look like much in the next 1/2 hour. Maybe next Alaska trip....
1:30/4131.3 = Back on Hwy 4 northbound. Thinking about taking paved Glenn Hwy & George Parks Hwy to Cantwell instead of unpaved Denali Hwy...
2:00/4162.4 = Turned left on Hwy 1/Glenn Hwy towards Anchorage.
3:58/4248.3 = Turned off the highway on a dirt road......

4:16/4251.0 = Parked AGAIN at Matanuska Glacier -- the largest Alaskan glacier accessible by car (24 miles long, 4 miles wide at its widest)
